Redcliffe Sewer Pump Stations, Rising Main and Emergency Storage Tank Upgrades
Project Redcliffe Pump Station, Sewer Rising Main and Emergency Storage Tank Upgrades at Redcliffe and Scarborough
Client Unitywater
Location Brisbane, QLD
Scope
Dormway was engaged by Unitywater to upgrade the sewerage system servicing the populated north-eastern coastal strip of Redcliffe and Scarborough, including 4 sewage pump stations that share a rising main which conveys sewage approximately 8km to Redcliffe Sewage Treatment Plant.
The project involved the design and construct of civil, mechanical and electrical upgrades to meet current standards of operation, performance and safety. The project also included the design and construction of 325 metres of OD450 PE rising main (via trenchless construction) and the installation of emergency storage tanks.
Outcome
As the existing pump stations were located within heavily populated residential areas and well utilised public spaces (including parks and adjacent waterfront), community consultation and communications were a priority to ensure that the concerns of the affected communities were understood and addressed.
Comprehensive planning was conducted to select construction methodologies and sequencing of the works such as to minimise impact on local communities.
Dormway’s successful management of key challenges (including traffic management, public safety and noise, odour and dust impacts), combined with regular community consultation and communications, enabled works to proceed smoothly, without any complaints.
Challenges
- Working within heavily populated residential and public spaces along Humpybong Esplanade, Flinders Parade, Landsborough Avenue and Grant Park
- Designing a bullet proof bypass pumping system with back-up provisions in the event of a failure of the primary system, to mitigate the risk of a sewage spill into the local community and adjacent waterways HOW MANY L/S?
- Consideration of noise impacts to the local community in the selection of bypass pumps
- Minimising community impacts including traffic management, public safety and noise, odour and dust impacts
