Watermain Upgrade – Bulcock St, Caloundra
Project Watermain Upgrade – Bulcock St
Client Unitywater
Location Caloundra, QLD
Scope
Replacement of approximately 410m of Asbestos Cement (AC) pipe, including meter services, within the paved footpath of one of Caloundra CBD’s busiest pedestrian thoroughfares.
Outcome
Dormway worked closely with Unitywater to develop Network Intervention Plans as well as contingency plans to maintain water supply or provide an alternative to affected businesses.
Despite encountering multiple unknown services during the night works, the project was delivered four days ahead of schedule. By methodically following our Water Quality Management Plan, water supply was restored by 5am each morning with zero water quality impacts.
Challenges
- Lift and lay construction underneath shop awnings affecting 30+ businesses in one of Caloundra’s busiest streets
- Planning & liaison with affected businesses to minimise disturbance to their operations
- Planning and managing vehicle and pedestrians movements to maintain public safety
- Works were completed as night works in order to minimise impacts to local businesses and pedestrians, with water supply restored and the footpath completely reinstated each morning
- Water supply was required to be maintained to 9 businesses operating outside of standard business hours
